It's been three seasons since the Cerritos College women's soccer team has won a CCCAA State Championship. They will start that journey once again this Saturday when they host Long Beach City College at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons, who are riding a six-game winning streak into the postseason, (14-4-2), finished in second place in the South Coast Conference, and have been seeded #4, while the third place Vikings were seeded #13.

Ticket prices for the game are $12 general admission, except for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens ago 60 and over, and children less than 12 years old, will be $8.

This will also mark the third meeting of the season between the two teams, with the Falcons holding a 2-0-0 record, as they posted 1-0 and 2-1 victories during conference play. The game played at Cerritos saw the Falcons get the game's lone goal in the sixth minute from sophomore Gabriela Jimenez (Los Angeles Jordan HS). The second meeting had the Falcons open a 2-0 first half lead on goals from freshmen Briana Flores (North Torrance HS) and Lucia Yanez (El Rancho HS), with the Vikings scoring in the 60th minute.

Offensively, sophomore Nia Thompson (Kennedy HS/Alabama A&M University) leads the team with 14 goals, with seven of them coming in the last four games, while Yanez has accounted for nine goals. Sophomore Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) comes into the postseason with seven goals and a team-leading 14 assists, while freshman Alessandra Ramirez (Warren HS) has scored nine times, and Jimenez producing seven goals. The goalkeeping has been split by the freshman duo of Liza Cisneros (Bellflower HS) and Melanie Corona (El Rancho HS). Cisneros has an 11-1-0 record with an 0.65 goals against average in 15 games (13 starts), with Corona posting a 3-3-2 record and a 1.70 goals against average.

The Vikings, who enter the playoffs on a four-game winning streak, have been led this season by Allison Rose Vellez, who has scored 18 goals with seven assists. She has scored six of her goals in the last three games. Accounting for 10 goals this season has been Brittany Caudillo, while Nathaly Silva has seven goals and five assists this season. Almareli Quintero has started 16 games in goal and has turned in a 1.05 goals against average, with Arianna Perez seeing action in five games (three starts) and had an 0.56 goals against average.
