Without the benefit of winning any events, the Cerritos College women's swimming team still compiled enough points to come in third place at the South Coast Conference Championships, which were held at Mt. San Antonio College over the last three days. The Falcons finished with 500 team points and only trailed the host Mounties, who won the championship with 638 points and second place Long Beach City College, who had 556 points.
Day 1 - Of the five events that were held on the first day, the Falcons had a trio of third place finishes and a pair of fourth place results. In the first event, the quartet of Carolina Medrano (Schurr HS), Joanna Porras (Warren HS), Elisabeth Stansell (Los Alamitos HS) and Lizbeth Ramirez (Sunny Hills HS) posted a third place time of 1:49.80 in the 200-yard freestyle. Leading Mt. SAC the first three legs, the Falcons saw the Mounites edge them for second place with a time of 1:49.27. Individually, Medrano earned third place points in the 500-yard freestyle with a clocking of 5:50.66, while Ramirez had to settle for third place in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.35. The sprint race had Ramirez just shy of taking second place, which went to Erin DeAnda of Mt. SAC with a time of 25.21. Stansell also competed in the race and finished in seventh place in a time of 27.81.
Another close finish came in the 200-yard IM, where Porras held an early lead against Mt. SAC's Kiani Lopez, but could not hold on in the latter part of the race. Porras came in fourth place with a clocking of 2:32.59, while Lopez posted a third place time of 2:32.19. In the final event of the day, the 400-yard medley relay team of Medrano, Jahnavi Shah (Cerritos HS), Porras and Ramirez finished in fourth place with a time of 4:43.01 and were less than four seconds behind third place El Camino College. The Falcons also received third place points from diver Candice Garcia (Rosary HS) in the 1-meter event.
Day 2 - Three second places and three more third places helped the Falcons hold on to a close second place lead over Long Beach City College. Ramirez used a strong final 100 yards in the 200-yard freestyle to pull out a second place finish. Trailing Karissa Qualley of Long Beach City, Ramirez pulled ahead to finish in second place with a time of 2:08.36, while Medrano matched that feat with a strong final 50 yards in the 100-yard backstroke. Her effort earned her a second place finish time of 1:10.32 and touched up just head of LBCC's Kelly Zavala, who had to settle for a third place time of 1:10.62.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Medrano, Stansell, Porras and Ramirez posted a second place time of 9:08.75, while the foursome of Medrano, Shah, Porras and Ramirez opened the day with a third place time of 2:05.47 in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 400-yard IM, Porras battled for a third place finish with a time of 5:27.11, while Medrano (1:05.78) and Porras (1:11.13) took third and fourth places, respectively in the 100-yard butterfly. Garcia also garnered third place points for the team in the 3-meter diving event.
Day 3 - Capping off the third day, Ramirez earned a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.46 and was edged out of third place by LBCC's Victoria Rowe, who posted a time of 57.27. In the 200-yard butterfly Karol Martinez (Warren HS) turned in a fourth place time of 2:50.32, while the championships ended with the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Martinez, Nine Wathanasayhee (Los Alamitos HS), Garcia and Stansell producing a fifth place time of 4:19.82.
