On Friday, the Cerritos College women's swimming team went to Mt. San Antonio College to compete in the South Coast Conference Pentathlon. It was the first opportunity for the Falcons to get a look at all of the schools in the conference.

In the five individual events that were held, Cerritos and three top 10 finishes, while they showed the most parity within the team in the 100-yard freestyle. In the event, five Falcon swimmers finished within two seconds of each other, which included freshman Amanda Acosta being the first to finish in a time of 1:03.79, which earned her a 16th place finish. Right behind her was freshman Karina Oliveros (Downey HS), whose time of 1:03.87 earned her a 17th place result. The next three Cerritos swimmers all finished within a second of each other, as they finished in 19th through 21st places, respectively. Sophomore Carolina Medrano (Schurr HS) touched up in 1:05.11, with freshman Mia Carbajal (Schurr HS) right behind at 1:05.90 and sophomore Elisabeth Stansell (Los Alamitos HS) next at 1:05.98.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Carbajal finished fifth out of 54 swimmers with a clocking of 1:19.56, while Acosta turned in a sixth place time of 1:20.51. As for Medrano, she placed 13th in a time of 1:24.26. It was Medrano that led Cerritos in the other three events, as her time of 1:14.12 put her in eighth place in the 100-yard butterfly. Stansell (1:19.28) and Carbajal (1:20.49) finished in 14th and 16th places. The 200-yard IM saw Medrano turn in a 12th place time in 2:41.01, with Acosta next up at 2:41.52, good for 13th place.

A time of 1:14.35 earned Medrano a 13th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and she was followed by Acosta and her 18th place time of 1:17.21. The day started the with foursome of Medrano, Oliveros, Carbajal and Acosta taking third place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:12.85.

The team will compete at the Golden West Invitational next Friday.
