The highlight of the Cerritos College women's swimming performance at the Golden West Invitational was the first place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke by Mia Carbajal (Schurr HS). In a race where the top four finishers touched up in less than a second, Carbajal saw her time of 36.14 beat the rest of the field. The Riverside City College pair of Jazzelle Figueroa (36.32) and Marina Partida (36.35) right behind Carbajal, with Amanda Acosta turning in a fourth place time of 36.97.

As a team, the Falcons finished with 111 team points, which put them in sixth place on the day. They will open South Coast Conference action next Friday at 10:00 a.m. when they host Long Beach City College and Chaffey College.

Along with her first place result, Carbajal was edged out for first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, as her time of 1:18.21 was beaten by Riverside City's Amelia Bennett and her time of 1:16.80. Acosta turned in an seventh place time of 1:22:24. Carolina Medrano (Schurr HS) also had a good day, as she turned in a pair of eighth place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.49) and 200-yard IM (2:45.99), while she recorded a 10th place time of 31.43 in the 50-yard butterfly.

The 500-yard freestyle had Karina Oliveros (Downey HS) record a ninth place finishing time of 6:20.12, with her time of 37.07 in the 50-yard backstroke earning her 11th place, as teammate Marisela Olivas (Schurr HS) was right behind in 12th place at 38.36. Acosta also competed in the 50-yard freestyle and took 14th place out of 32 entries with a time of 28.77. The 200-yard freestyle had Elizabeth Megaw (West Torrance HS) post a 13th place time of 2:12.12, while Elisabeth Stansell (Los Alamitos HS) was a distant 14th place in 2:28.35.

The relay races netted a trio of fifth place finishes and a sixth place for the Falcons. In the 200-yard freestyle, the quartet of Acosta, Carbajal, Medrano and Oliveros posted a fifth place time of 9:35.59, with the foursome of Medrano, Acosta, Carbajal and Oliveros posting their fifth place in a time of 2:11.56. It was the swimming order of Olivas, Carbajal, Medrano and Acosta that recorded a time of 4:59.32 for fifth place in the 400-yard medley relay, while Acosta, Carbajal, Olivas and Medrano were timed in 4:25.97 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
