Although their South Coast Conference meet was moved to another location, the Cerritos College women's swimming team picked up one win on Friday. The Falcons hosted both Rio Hondo College and Mt. San Antonio College at the Roadrunners facility because the Falcon Aquatic Center is down for repairs. Cerritos did post a win over Rio Hondo, 182-68, but dropped a 191-75 decision to the Mounties. The team will serve as the host of their next conference meet, but it will take place at El Camino College on March 25.
On the day, the Falcons recorded 11 second place finishes, but were unable to turn in a first place result. The 200-yard medley relay team of Jillian Crockett, Melody Carbajal, Kaya Glynn and Angelina Romero opened the day with a second place time of 2:14.87, while each of them recorded their own second place results in individual races.
Romero posted a trio of second place finishes in her events. She turned in a time of 6:16.06 in the 500-yard freestyle, while her clocking of 12:54.55 put her in second place in the 1000-yard freestyle. Teammate Karina Oliveros posted a third place time of 12:26.09. In the 200-yard backstroke, Romero placed second in 2:46.33m with Crockett right behind at 2:49.35. Crockett also turned in a second place time of 1:19.91 in the 100-yard backstroke.
As for Carbajal, she posted a time of 1:24.51 to come in second in the 100-yard breaststroke, with teammate Angelica Arcos close behind in third place at 1:26.05. The two switched places in the 200-yard breaststroke, with Arcos finishing in second place at 3:03.73, and Carbajal in third at 3:08.28. Glynn also had a three second place finishes, which included a time of 28.98 in the 50-yard freestyle, while she just missed out on winning the 100-yard butterfly by less than a second with a time of 1:09.87. Glynn also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:20.36.
Isabella Berdote finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:05.67, while her time of 3:05.67 put her in third place in the 200-yard butterfly. The day ended with the quartet of Samantha Wisher, Sarah Garcia, Jania Gregorio and Oliveros turning in a third place time of 4:53.82, which was just .67 short of coming in second place.
