
In their final South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to College of the Desert on Thursday. The setback was the third in four matches for the Falcons (17-6, 8-4), who finished in third place in conference play. All three loses were by 5-4 scores. The team will host Grossmont College (9-1) in their final regular season match at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
Cerritos was able to secure one team point in doubles play, as they duo of sophomore Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) and freshman Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia) posted an 8-4 win.
Flores also won her singles match, as she posted a 6-3, 6-4 win in the #4 position. Freshmen Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) and Mariia Yatsenko (School 328, Ukraine), who suffered a rare doubles loss, each posted wins in singles action. Heath earned a 6-2, 6-4 win in the #2 spot, while Yatsenko defeated Laura Arruda, 6-2, 6-3 in the #3 position on the ladder. Khomyachenko was defeated, 1-6, 3-6 by Leticia Dos Santos in the #1 singles match.
