Taking on NCAA Division II Concordia University on Saturday morning, the Cerritos College women's tennis team was defeated, 7-2. The loss drops the Falcons record to 2-1 on the year, while the team will continue playing on the road, as they have three matches coming up next week. The first will be on Tuesday when they travel to Saddleback College for a 2:00 p.m. match.

The match started well for Cerritos, winning two of the three doubles matches. They picked up a solid 8-2 decision in the top spot, as sophomore Lisa Suzuki (Fujimigaoka, Japan/Seward, County KS CC) and freshman Kseniia Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) turned in a strong performance. In the final doubles match, the Falcons were able to break serve and posted an 8-6 win by sophomores Itzi Torres (ITESM CEM, Mexico/Kansas Wesleyan University) and Diviana Bravo (Rosa de Jesus Cordero, Ecuador).

However, in singles play, the Eagles were too strong and they swept all six matches to post the team win. At the top of the ladder, Suzuki extended Anastasia Kurpina to a third set, but came up short in a 6-4, 2-6, 3-6 decision. Prokopchuk also played well in a 4-6, 3-6 straight set loss to Johanna Keeline in the #3 position in singles play. Freshman Moa Lindstrom (Dragonskolans Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden) was even with Samantha Schuster in the #4 singles match before dropping the first set, 6-4 and was shut out in the second set.
