Not affected by playing the day before and then traveling, the Cerritos College women's tennis team opened the Ventura Tournament on Friday with an 8-1 win over De Anza College. The Falcons (7-1) will have two matches on Saturday, as they take on both College of the Sequoias and Chabot College on the second day of the tournament.

With the Dons playing shorthanded, the Falcons received wins at the #3 doubles and #6 singles matches, while they won both of the doubles matches that were played to start the day. Sophomore Lisa Suzuki (Fujimigaoka, Japan/Seward County (KS) CC) and freshman Kseniia Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) got things started with an 8-1 win to improve to 6-0 as a pair, while the tandem of sophomores Itzi Torres (ITESM CEM, Mexico/Kansas Wesleyan University) and Diviana Bravo (Rosa de Jesus Cordero, Ecuador) improved to 4-0 as doubles partners with their 8-2 victory.

In the four singles matches that were won by Cerritos, they combined to lose just five games, with Torres recording a 6-0, 6-0 win in the #5 position. Prokopchuk and freshman Moa Lindstrom (Dragonskolans Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden) each lost just one game, with Such earning a 6-1, 6-2 win. The only loss on the day came in the #1 singles spot where Suzuki started slowly, but battled back before suffering a 6-4, 4-6 (9-7) loss.
