W. Tennis: Pair of wins highlights day for the Falcons

On Saturday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team completed their three-match sweep of the Ventura Tournament. The Falcons (9-1) defeated both College of the Sequoias (9-0) and Chabot College (5-0) after dispatching De Anza College, 8-1 on Friday. The team will return home to face Orange Coast College (5-0) at 2:00 p.m. in what might be one of their toughest matches of the season.

Cerritos vs. College of the Sequoias: The Falcons made quick work of the Giants, as they lost just three games combined in doubles play, while four of the six singles matches were 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. The day started with sophomore Lisa Suzuki (Fujimigaoka, Japan/Seward County (KS) CC) and Kseniia Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) teaming up for a win in doubles play, with Suzuki earning a 6-2, 6-2 win in the #1 singles position. Sophomore Petra Such (Illyes Gyula, Hungary) and freshman Moa Lindstrom (Dragonskolans Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden) also played well in doubles action, with Such earning a 6-0, 6-3 singles win. The remainder of the singles matches were shutouts, with sophomores Itzi Torres (ITESM CEM, Mexico/Kansas Wesleyan University) and Diviana Bravo (Rosa de Jesus Cordero, Ecuador) joining the other doubles pairs with their 8-1 win.

Cerritos vs. Chabot: Once the Falcons earned five wins in singles play, the match was called. Cerritos won the five singles matches in straight sets and surrendered a mere five games, with Prokopchuk posting her second 6-0, 6-0 decision of the day. Such, Lindstrom and Torres each lost just one game, while Bravo earned a 6-1, 6-1 win. Suzuki dropped the first set at the top of the ladder, but the match was ended after the fifth singles win was recorded.
