Coming into the match against an undefeated Orange Coast College team, the Cerritos College women's tennis team made quick work of their opponent in a 9-0 non-conference home win on Tuesday. The Falcons (10-1) will now open South Coast Conference play on Thursday when Rio Hondo College comes in for a 2:00 p.m. match.
Continuing to take early leads in the team scoring due to strong doubles play, Cerritos held a 3-0 lead heading into the six singles matches. The Falcons swept through the Pirates (5-1) quickly and none of the players lost more than three games in a set. In the #3 singles match, freshman Kseniia Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) posted a 6-0, 6-0 score, while the trio of sophomores Petra Such (Illyes Gyula, Hungary) and Diviana Bravo (Rosa de Jesus Cordero, Ecuador), along with freshman Moa Lindstrom (Dragonskolans Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden), all lost just a combined two games in each of their matches. At the top of the ladder, sophomore Lisa Suzuki (Fujimigaoka, Japan/Seward County (KS) CC) played to a 6-1, 6-3 victory, with sophomore Itzi Torres (ITESM CEM, Mexico/Kansas Wesleyan University) earning a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win.
