Playing in their final dual match of the season, the Cerritos College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 non-conference decision to Saddleback College on Thursday. The Falcons (3-9, 1-5) will be hosting the South Coast Conference Tournament next Thursday and Friday.
The two teams split the six matches that were played, with the Gauchos (3-10) receiving three team points due to Falcon forfeits. In singles play, Cerritos won three of the four matches, led by sophomore Moa Lindström (Dragonskolan Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden), who posted a 6-2, 6-4 straight set win in the #1 position. As for freshman Alba Gonzalez (Colegio Madre Guadalupe, Venezuela), she also won in straight sets in the #2 spot, 6-3, 6-0. The third win came from freshman Evelyn Rodriguez Toro (Compton HS), who earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 win in the #4 spot.
Freshman Selene Bayardo (Long Beach Millikan HS) was forced to retire from her singles match due to a nagging injury after battling through a doubles match with Lindström in an 8-4 setback. It marked the first time the two teamed together in doubles play. It was the same for Rodriguez Toro and Gonzalez, who suffered an 8-4 loss in their first pairing together.
