W. Track & Field: Top five spots held down by Cerritos

After the first day of the Southern California Heptathlon Championships, the top five point leaders are all members of the Cerritos College women's track and field team. Four events were held at Falcon Stadium on Tuesday, with the other three events to take place starting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The point leader after the first four events is sophomore Michaela Banyi (Valencia HS), who has compiled 2733 points, with sophomore teammates Davina Pham (Fountain Valley HS) and Amani Briggs (Lakewood HS) each less than 100 points behind. Pham (2658 points) collected the most points in the high jump (712) after clearing 5' 2 1/2", while Briggs (2653 points) turned in the second best 200 meters time (26.09) for 789 points, while her 100-meter high hurdles time of 15.68 was also the second best time posted on the day. As for Banyi, she pulled into the lead with the best 100-meter HH time of 15.42, as well as the best shot put, 10.96 meters, which netted her over 100 more points than the second best result submitted.

Also competing for the Falcons, and in the top five, include sophomore Kymberlynn Jackson (University Prep HS), who sits in fourth place with 2538 points, with freshman Darlena Robinson (Schurr HS) compiling 2246 points, good for fifth place. Freshman Mikaiella Vargas (El Rancho HS) is currently in 13th place with 1558 points.

The events to take place on Wednesday include the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
