W. Track & Field: Cerritos dominates relays and field events

Competing at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team excelled in the relays and field events. The Falcons, who will be traveling to Las Vegas this weekend for the UNLV Invitational, won the 4x100-meter relay race, took second in the 4x400-meter relay and won two of the field events at Occidental College.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Deborah Jackson (Earl Warren, TX HS), Shyanne Carrigan (Fullerton HS), Precious Alugbue (King/Drew HS) and Alona Davis (Bellflower HS) turned in a California Community College A-Qualifying time of 49.11, while the 4x400-meter team turned in a B-Qualifying time of 4:14.70 and consisted of Alugbue, Keanna Daramola, Darlena Robinson (Schurr HS) and Daila Bell (Carson HS). The only team to beat them out were members of Team China.

Freshman Justice Smith (Highland HS), who already recorded an automatically qualifying distance in the long jump, beat out the competition with a leap of 11.71 in the triple jump. Teammate Imani Jones (Mater Dei HS) registered an A-Qualifying distance of 10.90 meters to finish in third place.

Sophomore thrower Nanati Alailefaleula (Long Beach Millikan HS) picked up a win in the shot put with a throw of 12.12 meters, which is a A-Qualifying distance. She also took fifth in both the discus (34.32 meters) and hammer (39.48 meters), with sophomore Kierra King (Long Beach Wilson HS) recording an A-Qualifying distance of 5.45 meters, which put her in third place.

In other running events, Carrigan took second place in the 100 meters with a time of 12.40, with Davis in a close fourth place at 12.47. Alia Scott posted a B-Qualifying time of 15.27 to come in third place in the 100-meter HH, with Robinson recording a fifth place time of 16.79.
