W. Track & Field: Falcons win five events at meet

Competing at the Arnie Robinson Invitational at San Diego Mesa College on Friday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won five events. Three of the wins came in sprinting events, with the other two in field events. Next weekend, the Falcons will host the Cerritos Invitational and Multi Events meet.

Sophomore thrower Nanati Alailefaleula (Long Beach Millikan HS) earned wins in the shot put (12.22 meters) and hammer (42.52 meters), while she also placed sixth in the discus at 35.46 meters. Freshman Justice Smith (Highland HS) recorded a second place finish in the long jump at 5.59 meters.

The Falcons took three of the top four spots in the 100 meters, with freshman Kenyla Miles (Carson HS) winning the event in a time of 12.07, with freshman Mahlaya Salter (Diamond Ranch HS) a close second with a time of 12.40. Finishing in fourth was freshman Precious Alugbue (King/Drew HS) with her time of 12.53. In the 200 meters, freshman Alona Davis (Bellflower HS) was the first to cross the finish line with a clocking of 25.41, while Alugbue was fifth in a time of 26.12 and sophomore teammate Glenn Nance (Gardena HS) taking sixth in 26.45. Freshman Alia Scott (Vista HS) made it a triple win for Cerritos in the sprints with a win in the 400 meters at 56.71. She was followed closely by freshman teammate Laurel Shepherd (Irvine HS) in third place at 59.86 and freshman Shyanne Carrigan (Fullerton HS) in fifth place at 1:01.42.

Sophomore Monica Bautista (El Rancho HS) also had a fine day with a third place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.89, while earlier in the day she took fifth place in the 1500 meters at 5:23.82.
