W. Track & Field: Falcons come in second place at the conference championships

Earning 69 of their team points from throws competition, the Cerritos College women's track and field team finished in second place at the South Coast Conference Championships on Saturday. The Falcons finished with 186 team points and those who qualified will take part in the Southern California Prelims next Saturday at Moorpark College.

Aiding the team in their runner-up position were wins in three throwing events by three different athletes. The Falcons took the top three spots in the javelin, with Riyanna Jackson (Mayfair HS) coming in first place with a distance of 32.02 meters. Second place finisher, Angelina Escobar (Bell Gardens HS), posted a distance of 30.08 meters, with Jazzmine Davis (El Camino Real Charter HS) placing third at 29.75 meters. Escobar also earned Cerritos 10 team points with her discus championship. She recorded her first place distance of 40.09 meters on her second of six attempts, with Faitalia Ah-Fook (Warren HS) coming in fourth place with a throw of 35.68 meters. The third throwing championship came from Ah-Fook in the hammer at 42.22 meters on her last throw, with Escobar taking third place at 41.23 meters, which was also on her final throw.

Sprinter Ashley Miller (Paramount HS), who joined the team after the basketball season came to an end, captured the conference championship in the 100 meters with a time of 12.28. She also ran the second leg of the 400-meter relay team that turned in a time of 48.55. That team consisted of Davis, Miller, Jackson and Isis Johnson (Bellflower HS). Davis also picked up a conference championship in the 100-meter HH with a time of 14.59, while her time of 1:06.16 put her in third place in the 400-meter IH.
