After the first day of the CCCAA State Championships, the Cerritos College women's track and field team scored in one of the two events in which they were entered. The Falcons, who are entered in five more events on Saturday, are competing at Mt. San Antonio College. On Friday, freshman thrower Angelina Escobar competed in two events and accounted for the Falcons two team points. She placed seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.83 meters, with teammate Faitalia Ah-Fook finishing in ninth place with a throw of 39.78 meters. Escobar also qualified in the javelin and turned in an 11th place performance with 29.85 meters. A pair of Falcons completed four of the seven events of the heptathlon, with freshman Jazzmine Davis sitting in ninth place with 2037 points, while freshman Michelle Campos is 12th with 2005 points. Davis would be sitting much higher in the standings if not for her lack of points in the high jump when she couldn't clear the opening height. Her best height of the season was 1.40 meters, with the lowest height of the day being 1.41 meters. Davis opened the day with the fastest 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.64, good for 890 points. She holds the fastest time in the state at 14.37 and is the favorite to win the state championship in the event on Saturday. Her shot put distance of 8.89 meters was the fifth best and scored 457 points, with the day concluding with a sixth fastest time in the 200 meters at 27.26, which earned her 690 points. Campos was right behind her in the 200 meters, as her time of 27.28 added 689 points to her total. In the high jump, Campos tied for the seventh best height at 1.44 meters, earning her 555 points.
