Throughout the majority of the season, the Cerritos College women's track and field team has been the only community college competing in the invitationals that attend. Friday was no different, as the Falcons took part in the Vince O'Boyle Invitational at UC Irvine. This Tuesday and Wednesday, Cerritos will send several athletes to take part in the Southern California Heptathlon Championships at Mt. san Antonio College with a chance to qualify for the 3C2A State Championships in May.
Turning in one of her better times this season in the 200 meters was Elena Mack (El Camino Real Charter HS), who came in ninth place with a time of 25.44, while sophomore Delilah Chavez (Lakewood HS) registered a personal best time in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 12:45.16, which put her in fifth place on the day.
In the throwing events, freshman Emily Ortiz (Tustin HS) came in ninth place in the discus with a personal best distance of 39.47 meters, with sophomore Milika Burdett (Cypress HS) also recording a personal best in the hammer. Her throw of 43.83 meters placed her eighth on the day. Ortiz also checked in with a personal best distance of 40.29 meters.
