On the strength of her career-high 23 kills, freshman Susan Suski (Cerritos HS) led the Cerritos College volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-14 win over host East Los Angeles College in a South Coast Conference match on Friday. The win improved the Falcons record to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They will travel to Pasadena City College for a 6:00 p.m. conference match on Wednesday.

For Suski, she was instrumental in the team's first set win, as she recorded eight of her kills, with seven of them coming in a losing cause in the third set. But the team looked to her as their first option. Freshman Aniga Aiono (Lakewood HS) also had the option of going to sophomore Latia Peters (Hesperia HS), who was equally effective with 17 kills and just four attack errors.

Peters also worked with Aiono as a setter, with the two combining for 40 assists, while the Falcons were dominant with their setting, as they recorded 18 service aces to help them in their win over the Huskies. Suski led the way with five aces and also contributed seven digs in the back row, while Aiono finished the match with four aces, with the duo of Yazmin Rios (Paramount HS) and Gloria Chang (Bellflower HS) each posting three aces. Rios, who came up with 10 digs in the back row, was also able to register four kills, with freshman Ashley Castro (Santa Fe HS) leading the back row with 12 digs.

The trio of Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS), Chang and Chelsea James (La Mirada HS) all finished with three kills in the win.
