Volleyball: Win keeps Falcons in second place

On the strength of their 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20 win over host East Los Angeles College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team remains in second place in the South Coast Conference. The Falcons (6-6, 3-1) will now host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in a 6:00 p.m. conference match on Friday.

In the win over the Huskies, the Falcons received 12 kills each from sophomores Sara Hickman (La Mirada HS) and Jasmynne Roberts (Long Beach Poly HS), while sophomore Lisa Villarroel (Long Beach Millikan/LBCC) contributed seven kills and just one attacking error.

The team was also effective at the net, as Villarroel led the way with four blocking assists, with sophomore Jasmin Mitchell (Warren HS) finishing with three block assists. Villarroel was also strong with her serve, accounting for six of the team's eight service aces.

Sophomore setter Michelle Barba (Downey HS) directed the offense with 22 assists, with freshman setter Natalie Caravantes (Montebello HS) coming in to dish out 17 assists in the win. Mitchell and freshman Tisha Lenon (Gahr HS) combined for nine kills in a balanced attack, while freshman Jasmine Peralta (Lakewood HS) and Hickman had eight and seven digs, respectively.
