The Cerritos College volleyball team concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 16-25, 12-25, 17-25 loss to host Riverside City College on Wednesday. The setback was the third in a row for the Falcons (5-5), who start South Coast Conference play by hosting El Camino College at 6:00 p.m. on September 23.

In the loss to the Tigers (5-2), Cerritos struggled at the net and finished with a negative hitting percentage and had a tough time preventing their opponents from scoring points in bunches.

The biggest lead in the second set for the Falcons was a 9-7 advantage, but then watched Riverside run off 14 of the next 16 points to post the win. Cerritos led 4-1 and 5-2 in the third set, but were unable to maintain any kind of momentum and saw the match get away from them after knotting the set at 8-8.

The trio of sophomores Jasmine McNeal (Long Beach Poly HS) and Monica Vega (South Gate HS), along with freshman Grace Mendez (King City HS) all had a team-high four kills, with sophomore setter Lorinet Marquez (Cerritos HS/Providence (CA) College) posting 19 assists. McNeal had two blocks, with freshman Daisy Segura (Cerritos HS) recording nine digs from the back row.
