On Wednesday, the Cerritos College volleyball team dropped a pair of straight set non-conference matches to fall to 0-3 early in the season. The Falcons were swept by both host Fullerton College (18-25, 12-25, 17-25) and then Citrus College, 23-25, 22-25, 22-25. They will look for their first win of the season on Friday when they travel to Golden West College for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference match.

Cerritos vs. Fullerton: The Falcons fell behind early in all three sets and were never able to generate any kind of momentum. They struggled to string together any points against the Hornets and had difficulty both in the attack position at the net and in their service. Cerritos finished the match with eight service errors. The duo of freshmen Cecilia Burroughs (Cabrillo HS) and Jody Suski (Cerritos HS) each led the team with five kills, while Suski also added a team-leading 13 digs. Sophomore setter Daisy Segura (Cerritos HS) dished out 18 assists, while also contributing five digs and three kills. Using only seven players, six of them registered at least one kill in the setback.

Cerritos vs. Citrus: Playing a more competitive match against the Owls, the young Falcons weren't able to figure out how to pull together in the latter stages of each set, which led to three close losses. Ten more service errors also troubled the team. Suski led the way with seven kills (six errors), along with 18 digs, with Burroughs posting five kills and three solo blocks against Citrus. Segura contributed in many ways, as she directed the offense with 18 assists, 11 digs and five kills. Freshmen Nataly Reynoso (Pioneer HS) and Nadia Arreaga (L.A.C.E.S. HS) recorded 11 and eight digs, respectively.
