Still looking for their first win of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept by host Irvine Valley, 15-25, 10-25, 10-25 on Wednesday. The matchup with the Falcons (0-5) and the Lasers (4-0) was the first ever with second-year Cerritos coach Kari Pestolesi and her father, longtime Irvine Valley Coach, Tom Pestolesi. The team will be back on the court next Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference match against visiting Riverside City College.

In the first set against Irvine Valley, the Falcons kept the match close through the first half, but were unable to maintain their momentum. The Lasers put together a series of unanswered points and after posting a win in the first set, never slowed down and dispatched Cerritos.

By contrast, Irvine Valley hit a very respectable .375 at the net, while the Falcons had difficulty against their taller opponents. Cerritos posted a .015 hitting percentage and were led by freshman Jody Suski (Cerritos HS), who had a team-high six kills and added 12 digs. Freshman Nataly Reynoso (Pioneer HS) contributed three kills and six digs in the loss, with freshman Sabrina Rivas (California HS) taking over the setting duies and registered 12 assists.
