After two difficult sets, the Cerritos College volleyball team played well, but still came up short in a loss to visiting San Diego City College on Wednesday. The Falcons (0-9), still looking for their first win, were defeated, 17-25, 8-25, 25-21, 16-25 to the state's #24-ranked Knights (8-1). The team will now start their South Coast Conference crossover schedule when they host East Los Angeles College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cerritos no match for San Diego City, who served 20 straight points in the second set, thanks to the serve of Lysette Serna, who finished with four service aces and seven kills. The Falcons regrouped in the third set and pulled out a 25-21 win. After allowing the first four points of the set, the Falcons recorded nine straight points of their own with four players posting one kill each.

Once they took the lead, Cerritos never relinquished it and scored the final three points, with two coming on attack errors and another on a kill from freshman Jody Suski (Cerritos HS). They rode that momentum as long as they could in the fourth set and held a 15-13 lead. But San Diego City stormed back and registered eight consecutive points, with three attack errors aiding the Knights surge.

Suski led the team with 10 kills and added 14 digs, as the Falcons finished with 65 digs on the night. They recorded the majority of them in the final two sets, as they extended points with some excellent play. Sophomore Daisy Segura (Cerritos HS) added nine kills and shared the team lead with 15 digs along with freshman Nataly Reynoso (Pioneer HS). Freshman setter Sabrina Rivas (California HS) recorded 24 assists and 10 digs, with the tandem of freshmen Bianca Smith (Washington Prep HS) and Nadia Arreaga (L.A.C.E.S. HS) each adding four kills.
