With a short bench to work with, the Cerritos College volleyball team spent most of their match against Rio Hondo College setting for two players. Although the 25-22, 24-26, 16-25, 16-25 four-set loss to the Roadrunners (6-8) kept the Falcon (0-11) winless on the season, they did receive several stalwart performances on the night. The team will look for their first win when they travel to Pasadena City College on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. South Coast Conference crossover match.

Sophomore Daisy Segura (Cerritos HS) and freshman Jody Suski (Cerritos HS) were instrumental on the Falcons winning the first set, and had the team in position to grab the second set. The duo combined for 31 kills and were set 127 times on the night, while they also played a solid back row and racked up 30 digs together.

After pulling out the first set, the Falcons were in position to take a two-set lead against Rio Hondo. The second set was tied 10 times until Cerritos opened a 23-20 lead after a Segura kill gave the team the serve. After a service error, Segura recorded a kill and Cerritos was up 24-21. However, the Roadrunners took advantage of a pair of Falcon attack errors and then slammed home the final three points to even the match.

Cerritos didn't seem to be able to recover after that point and led just once in each of the final two sets. Rio Hondo turned to Bree Newton, who led the match with 19 kills while the team had seven blocks at the net, with Andrea Sanchez (seven kills) posting five block assists.

After the Segura-Suski combination, freshman Cecilia Burroughs (Cabrillo HS), who returned after an injury, was next on the team with five kills. Freshman setter Sabrina Rivas (California HS) recorded 32 assists, with freshman libero Nataly Reynoso (Pioneer HS) leading everyone with 28 digs.
