Falcons drop straight set loss to Pasadena City

On Friday, the Cerritos College volleyball team suffered a straight set loss to host Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference crossover match. The Falcons (0-12) were defeated, 23-25, 19-25, 21-25 in a match where they were close to the Lancers all night. The team will start South Coast Conference South Division play on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host El Camino College.

In the first set, Cerritos was tied with Pasadena City 14 times, but could find a way to secure the first set win. Trailing 22-21, freshman Nataly Reynoso (Pioneer HS) recorded a kill, followed by a service ace from freshman Jody Suski (Cerritos HS) to put the team on top, 23-21. But just like a lot of sets during the season, the Falcons just couldn't finish off their opponent. Consecutive kills by the Lancers Vanessa Lopez was followed by an attack error by Suski, which gave Pasadena City the first set.

Staying within three points in the second set, the Falcons trailed 19-16 before the Lancers put away five kills to secure the second set. Still battling to the end, Cerritos was able to keep close in the third set and tied the score at 17-17 after a Suski kill. The Lancers ran off four consecutive points for a 21-17 advantage, and the teams traded points the rest of the set and another night ends in a hard fought battle with nothing to show from it.

Suski pounded home 14 kills with just four errors and also added 14 digs, with sophomore Daisy Segura (Cerritos HS) contributing eight kills and 17 digs. Reynoso led the back row with 23 digs, with freshman setter Sabrina Rivas (California HS) posting 24 assists.
