Taking on one of the top-ranked teams in the state, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept in three sets by visiting El Camino College on Wednesday, 8-25, 16-25, 17-25. The Falcons (4-8, 0-1) will look to rebound when they travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. conference match.

The Warriors (10-1, 1-0) posed a threat to Cerritos all night with their height and depth, and didn't commit an attack error until the second set. The Falcons were as close as 5-3 in the first set after a Brooke Winquist (Lakewood HS) kill, but El Camino went on to score points in bunches and close out the first set quickly. Cerritos led, 8-6 in the second set after a kill from freshman Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS), and after the set was tied, 11-11, the Warriors pulled away and scored 14 of the final 19 points and didn't allow the Falcons to recorded more than one point at a time.

In the third set, Cerritos seemed to run out of gas, as El Camino opened up a quick 10-1 advantage with the Falcons unable to get to within five points the rest of the way. Hernandez-Hardy led the team with six kills and added five digs, with sophomore Jody Suski (Cerritos HS) concluding with four kills and six digs on the night.

The tandem of freshman Alexia Torres (Downey HS) and Nadia Arreaga (L.A.C.E.S. HS) each finished with three kills each, with sophomore Regan Stanton (Lakewood HS/Long Beach CC) leading the team with 10 digs and also added a trio of assists. The duo of Lizbeth Vega (Paramount HS) and Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) combined to account for 14 assists for the Falcons.
