Playing their third five-set match of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team dropped to 0-3 after a tough South Coast Conference crossover loss to Rio Hondo College on Friday. The Falcons (5-11) were defeated by the Roadrunners, 17-25, 25-23, 11-25, 25-22, 7-15 and will return home next Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. crossover match against Mt. San Antonio College.

The loss offset a 21-kill performance from sophomore Jody Suski (Cerritos HS), which matches her season high, while she also recorded an amazing 52 digs in the back row. Also keeping rallies alive with her defensive abilities was sophomore Regan Stanton (Lakewood HS/Long Beach CC), who matched Suski with 52 digs in the five-set match. The two of them, along with sophomore Nadia Arreaga (L.A.C.E.S. HS) and her 35 digs, were the main players who kept the team close to posting the win.

Freshman Alexia Torres (Downey HS) was also effective at the net with her 10 kills, as the Falcons saw eight of their 10 players post at least one kill. Taking over the setting duties was freshman Mirka Granoble (Downey HS), who accounted for 47 assists, along with six digs and two kills, with freshman Madison Wybenga (Valley Christian HS) checking in with three kills, while freshman Brooke Winquist (Lakewood HS) posted two kills and nine digs.
