Volleyball: Lead gets away from Falcons in five-set match

Facing an improved Los Angeles Harbor College team in a South Coast Conference match on Wednesday, the Cerritos College volleyball team found themselves one set away from a win. After taking two of the first three sets, the Falcons (1-9, 1-2) saw the Seahawks (7-4, 1-2) battle back and post a 25-18, 18-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12 win. Cerritos will travel to Long Beach City College for a 6:00 p.m. match on Friday.

The long match allowed a trio of players to post double-digit kills, with sophomores Brooke Winquist (Carlsbad International School, Czechia) and Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) finishing with 13 each. Recording 10 kills was sophomore Alexia Torres (Downey HS), with sophomore setter Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) dishing out 40 assists and also added a trio of service aces.

Returning to the lineup, freshman Jackie Dixon (Gahr HS) was affective in the back row and recorded a team-high 21 digs, while Hernandez-Hardy (17 digs) and freshman Marissa Reyna (Norwalk HS), who had 16 digs, played exceptional all-around games. Hernandez-Hardy and freshman Cameron Puente (Mayfair HS) were also a presence at the net and each recorded a pair of block assists, with Puente also adding three kills.
