W. Water Polo: Conference win keeps team undefeated

For the third season in a row, the Cerritos College women's water polo team recorded a shutout. On Wednesday, the Falcons recorded a 16-0 shutout win over host Rio Hondo College to improve their South Coast Conference record to 3-0 and their overall mark to 7-4. Next up will be an 11:00 a.m. match against a group of Alumni at the Falcon Aquatic Center on Saturday.

In the win over the Roadrunners, Cerritos took a 7-0 lead after the first period and cruised their way to the win. Just 2:17 into the match, it was already a 4-0 lead, which gave the team a chance to spread the goals around. By the end of the match, nine different players had scored goals, while Cerritos recorded 20 steals.

Freshman Mayra Olivas (Montebello HS) led the balanced attack with four goals on four shots, while freshman Lizbeth Ramirez (Sunny Hills HS) accounted for three goals, three assists and four steals. A trio of players scored two goals, as Lizbeth Gomez (Schurr HS), Vanessa Perez (Sonora HS) and Kate De La Mora (Schurr HS) also combined for 10 assists in the win. Freshman Karol Martinez (Warren HS) paced the team with five steals, with sophomore goalkeeper Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) turning away five shots.
