Now in his second season with the women’s water polo program, Jose Reyes also splits his time with the men’s team. Reyes started swimming and playing water polo in the Dominican Republic, where he played for the Jr. National Team and the Senior National Team playing in numerous tournaments including the Jr. Pan-American games, Senior’s Pan-American games and the Central American and Caribbean Games. One of his biggest experiences was playing in Pre-World Championships. Jose was part of the Long Beach City College team in 1994-95 in which he was selected First Team All-American.

As a coach, he brings 22 years of experience having worked with all levels of athletes. Reyes started his career as a coach with the Long Beach Shore. He has been part of many successful teams in the Orange County area as an assistant coach in high school as well as at the college level. Furthermore, he has the experience of head coaching, as he guided the Huntington Beach HS teams to the playoffs and developed players to move on to the next level from 2003-2007.

In addition, Reyes is a FINA referee. In 2013 and 2014 he was selected to referee the Gold Medal game in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Costa Rica and Veracruz, Mexico. Additionally, Jose was selected to referee the Bronze Medal game of the Jr. Pan-American Games in Montreal in 2012. In the Orange County area, Jose is a current referee appointed to referee CIF games including semifinals and championship games.

Jose graduated from National University with a BA in General Arts, with a concentration in Leadership and Sport Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master's in Performance Psychology. Reyes is also the father of daughter Amaya that loves to swim and play water polo.
