With their top five runners finishing in the top 15, the Cerritos College women's cross country team won the championship of the Brubaker Invitational on Friday. The Falcons finished with 45 team points and beat eight other teams on the Irvine Regional Park course. The team will travel north to Oregon next Saturday for the Lewis and Clark Invitational.

Coming in second place on the 5K course out of 73 runners was Marylu Pulido (Whittier HS), who turned in a stellar time of 20:14.8. She was beat by Toni Lopez of Santa Ana College (19:19.2), while she held off two other runners for the second place finish. One of the next pair of runners after the top four was Elsa Vazquez Vallin (Warren HS), who came in fifth place overall with her time of 20:21.5. Three of the nine schools had their first two runners finish in the top 10, but the Falcons were more consistent, as their next three runners finished 14 seconds apart and were in the top 14.

Stephanie Perea (Downey HS) was the 11th runner to finish the course in a time of 21:01.8, while the tandem of Alexis Garfias (Schurr HS) and Adriana Velasco (Downey HS) posted respective times of 21:15.2 and 21:15.8 to finish in 13th and 14th places, which rounded out the team's scoring.

Running a competitive race was Neiva Cuevas (Western HS), who turned in a time of 22:31.1 to place 25th overall, with Brianna Gill (La Serna HS) finishing in 42nd (23:49.2) and Kathia Munoz (Paramount HS) placing 44th place (23:54.6). Also competing was Jaida Bailey (Vista del Lago HS), who placed 63rd with a time of 28:06.7.
