W. Cross Country: Team places fourth at meet

As the lone community college competing at the Lewis and Clark (OR) Invitational on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in fourth place. The Falcons finished with 114 team points and were just edged out of third place by four team points. There were 10 teams that ran the 6K course at McIver Park. The team will take a week off before competing in the South Coast Conference Championships at Columbia Park in Palos Verdes.

Of the 112 runners, the Falcons saw their top two runners finish in 12th and 13th places, respectively to lead the way. Sophomore Maria Orosco (Katella HS) stayed with a pack of six runners until the final stages of the race and was the final competitor to cross the finish line out of that group and was clocked in a time of 22:58.4. As for sophomore Marylu Pulido (Whittier HS), she took 13th place with her time of 23:03.3, as she pulled away from two other runners to cross the finish line.

Taking 27th place overall was freshman Adriana Velasco (Downey HS), who was in a large group of runners heading into the final few hundred yards. She held off most of them to post a time of 24:01.4. Also included in that pack was sophomore Elsa Vazquez Vallin (Warren HS), who earned 29th place with her clocking of 24:05.1. The fifth runner to finish and secure the team score was freshman Alexis Garfias (Schurr HS), who posted a time of 24:37.0 to take 45th place.

Also running for Cerritos were Stephanie Perea (Downey HS; 47th place, 24:38.1) and Neiva Cuevas (Western HS; 81st place; 25:55.9);
