As one of only two community colleges competing at the Lancer Invitational, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in seventh place out of as many schools on Friday. Hosted by Cal Baptist University, the Falcons compiled 205 team points and had 10 entries in the meet. The team will now travel to the Fresno Invitational next Saturday, which will be held at Woodward Park and serve as host of the state championships.

Leading the way over the 4,000-meter course was sophomore Adriana Velasco (Downey HS), who came in 31st place out of 85 entries and posted a time of 16:13. She was in a tight battle with several runners and pulled ahead of them in the final few hundred meters for her place. Following :31 seconds later was freshman Sabrina Padilla (Montebello HS), who took 43rd place with a time of 16:44. She was one of seven runners to finish within three seconds, as a trio of runners all posted the same time.

Next to finish was freshman Rebecca Harris, whose time of 17:07 earned her 57th place, with freshman Gabrielle Mendoza (Schurr HS) crossing the finish line in 17:09, good for 60th place overall. Mendoza ran with a group where five runners finished within three seconds, with Harris finishing as the second member of that group.

The final runner to finish off the team scoring was freshman Katherine Batres (Schurr HS) with a time of 17:26, good for 64th place, while Bailee Wilkerson (Mayfair HS) earning 68th place in 17:39. Another four runners competed for the Falcons.
