W. Cross Country: Second place finish at UNLV Invite for Falcons

On Saturday at the UNLV Invitational, the Cerritos College women's cross country team competed with both community colleges and four-year schools. Separating the team scoring by division, the Falcons finished with 49 team points, with Dixie State the only other community college team, and they compiled 15 team points to win the division. The team will take next week off before entering the Triton Classic, which will be held at UC San Diego.

Of all the college runners competing in the invitational, Tyler Simpson (Dominguez HS) was the 41st overall competitor to complete the course, as she posted a time of 19:43, with Alejandra De La O (Norwalk HS) right behind in 44th place with her clocking of 19:54. Next to finish the race for the Falcons was Rebecca Harris (Buena Park HS), whose time of 20:47 put her in 52nd place, while Giselle Burgos (El Rancho HS) and Raquel Calderon finished together to cap off the team scoring. Burgos posted a 54th place time of 20:55, with Calderon turning in a time of 21:09, good for 55th place overall.

Those who also ran for the Falcons included Gaby Mendoza (Schurr HS; 22:29; 62nd place), Jessica Ayala (Cabrillo HS; 23:04; 63rd place), Jaime Monaco (Long Beach Poly HS; 23:38; 64th place), Debora Lopez-Guzman (Gahr HS; 24:08; 65th place) and Monica Bautista (El Rancho HS; 24:12; 66th place).
