While competing at the Southern California Championships at Central Park in Santa Clarita on Friday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in ninth place. Running with 25 other schools, the Falcons finished with 304 team points and trailed a pair of South Coast Conference schools - Mt. San Antonio College, who won the championship with 77 team points, and Los Angeles Harbor College, who took third place with 109 team points. The team will now compete at the CCCAA State Championships, which will take place at Woodward Park in Fresno on November 18.

Running the same 5K course they competed on back in September during the SoCal Preview Meet, three of the team's top four finishers posted better times in their second round on the course. Freshman Tyler Simpson (Dominguez HS) finished in 47th place overall with a time of 20:56.7, which was :19 seconds better than her first showing. Also shaving time off her first time on the course, freshman Alejandra De La O (Norwalk HS) earned a 54th place time of 21:08.2, which was :17 seconds faster.

The Falcons had their next three runners finish within 12 seconds of each other, but were 14 places apart. Sophomore Rebecca Harris (Buena Park HS), who led Cerritos at the SoCal Preview Meet, turned in a time of 21:23.6, which landed her in 66th place out of the 187 total runners. It was almost a minute slower than when she ran back in September. The next two runners, which compiled the team score were freshman Jessica Ayala (Cabrillo HS) with a 77th place time of 21:43.6, with sophomore Giselle Burgos (El Rancho HS) posting an 80th place time of 21:45.0. The time registered by Ayala was 1:12 faster than the first time she ran the course.

Also competing for Cerritos were freshman Debora Lopez-Guzman (Gahr HS), who took 133rd place in 23:04.6, while sophomore Gaby Mendoza (Schurr HS) finished in a time of 26:06.7, which put her in 166th place.
