W. Cross Country: Meet filled with 4-year schools drops Falcons to 21st place

In a meet where most of the competition was from four-year schools, the Cerritos College women's cross country team slipped to 21st place out of 22 schools on Saturday. Competing in the Highlander Classic at UC Riverside, the Falcons compiled 662 team points and finished ahead of Norco College, with five other community colleges placing higher than Cerritos. After taking a week off, the team will host the South Coast Conference Championships, which will take place October 26 at Don Knabe Community Regional Park.

Running the 5K course on Saturday, the first Cerritos runner to cross the finish line was Grace Cervantes (Schurr HS), who came in 193rd place out of 251 total runners with a time of 21:21.9. Next up for the team was Monica Bautista (El Rancho HS), who checked in with a 201st place time of 21:45.1, with Aileen Dominguez (La Mirada HS) taking 213th place when she crossed the finish line in 22:15.0. Not far behind was Debora Lopez-Guzman (Gahr HS), who completed the course in 22:33.7, which put her in 220th place.

The final two scoring runners on the day were Glenn Nance (Gardena HS), who finished in 227th place overall with a time of 23:04.6, while Vanessa Garcia (Whittier HS) earned 230th place when she recorded her time of 23:14.1. Also running for the Falcons on the day were Adrianna Martinez (California HS; 23:57.7; 235th place) and Karen Ruano (La Mirada HS; 28:18.7; 248th place).
