Men's Tennis secures conference win over Mt. San Jacinto

Opening the 2019 season on the road, the defending state champion Cerritos College men's tennis team recorded a 9-0 win over Santa Barbara City College on Friday. The Falcons, who won the team dual state championship, as well as the singles and doubles title last year, is a brand new team this season, with only one player back from last season, as well as one red-shirt and another from the 2017 squad. Not getting a chance to enjoy their win too long, the team will take to the road and head south to face UC San Diego at noon.

Taking on a shorthanded Vaqueros team, Cerritos picked up three wins in doubles play, with one by forfeit and added two more forfeit wins in singles action. Freshman Arthur Toledo (Goliath Academy (FL) HS) teamed with sophomore Bruno Duarte (Centro Educacional Rogêdo, Brazil) to form the #1 singles team. Duarte, who missed last season with an injury, was back to his form, as the duo earned an 8-6 win, while he registered a 6-2, 6-3 win in the #2 singles position. Toledo, who played in the #1 singles position, also recorded a straight set win, 6-0, 6-2.

Freshman Lucas Legrand (Marie France HS, France), who red-shirted last season, was inserted into the #3 singles position and posted a 6-2, 6-4 win, with sophomore Jan Simon (Gymnasium Auf Der Karthause, Germany/Cypress College) earning a 6-1, 6-0 win in the #4 spot. Legrand and Simon also teamed up for an 8-0 doubles victory.
