With their top three singles players out of town for Spring Break, the Cerritos College men's tennis team suffered a rare loss on Tuesday. The Falcons (12-2, 6-1) saw their 11-match winning streak come to an end with a 5-4 Western State Conference East Division loss to El Camino College. In their first two meetings, Cerritos shut out the Warriors, 9-0. The team will travel to Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday for another 2:00 p.m. conference match.

The trio of Arthur Toledo (Goliath ACademy, FL HS), Bruno Duarte (Centro Educacional Rogêdo, Brazil) and Lucas Legrand (Marie, France), who have a combined 26-5 record in singles play, were unavailable, which forced the rest of the players to move up in the ladder, while another who was coming back from an injury, stepped in to compete. The Falcons still won four of the six matches that took place, but it was the three team points due to the forfeits that cost the team the win.

Sophomore Jan Simon (Gymnasium Auf Der Karthause, Germany/Cypress College), who moved into the #1 position on the singles ladder, improved to 5-0 in that position with a 6-2, 6-4 win, while sophomore Nico De La Pena (Downey HS) won his first match in the #3 position by recording a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Battling through a wrist injury that had kept him out of the lineup for a week, freshman Stevan Quintantar (Cerritos HS) posted an impressive 6-0, 6-4 victory in the #4 spot on the ladder. Sophomore Tomas Bella (Colegio Mallinckrodt, Argentina/Cypress College), who competed for the first time in the #2 position this season, suffered a 1-6, 4-6 defeat.

Simon and Bella teamed up for the second time this season and picked up their second win, as they recorded an 8-5 doubles win. De La Pena and Quintantar returned to the lineup as doubles partners, but came up short, 8-3 in their match.
