Taking on the top ranked team from Northern California, the Cerritos College men's tennis team posted a 6-3 non-conference win in a 6-hour marathon on Saturday. The Falcons (14-2), the top ranked team in the state, will close out their dual meet schedule on Tuesday in a 2:00 p.m. Western State Conference East Division match against Mt. San Antonio. The match, which will be played at Citrus College, is a make-up from a rainout back on March 21.

Cerritos took an early 3-0 team lead against the Beavers (12-3) after they swept the doubles matches. It was a slow and methodical approach by American River, who looked to extend each rally in hopes of the Falcons making mistakes. It had some affect in singles play, with four of the six matches extended to a third set.

Sophomore Bruno Duarte (Centro Educacional Rogêdo, Brazil) fought back in his #2 singles match after losing the first set to Stephen Guenard, 3-6. Duarte, who also teamed with freshman Arthur Toledo (Goliath Academy, FL HS) for a solid 8-2 doubles win, posted a 6-4 win in the second set and held off a late challenge from Guenard for a 7-5 win in the deciding set.

The only player to win a straight set decision was freshman Lucas Legrand (Marie, France) in the #4 spot, as he recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win. Sophomore Nico De La Pena (Downey HS) had the longest day of any player, as he and doubles partner Tomas Bella (Colegio Mallinckrodt, Argentina/Cypress College) were extended to an 8-6 win. In singles action, De La Pena and Archie Ghasemi each split tie-breaker sets, with De La Pena coming back from a set down and finally closing him out with a 6-2 win in the third set.
