M. Track & Field: Jorge Gonzalez wins pair of events at meet

Sophomore thrower Jorge Gonzalez (Ventura HS) won a pair of events on Friday at the Arnie Robinson Invitational, which was held at San Diego Mesa College. Gonzalez picked up his first place finishes in both the discus (43.05 meters) and javelin (45.25 meters) and was the lone Falcon to finish first in any events. Next weekend, the college will host the Cerritos Invitational and Combined Events meet.

Also performing well in the field events were freshman Destin Flucas (Cerritos HS), who came in second place in the high jump when he cleared 2.00 meters, while freshman pole vaulter Brian Lanton (Bell Gardens HS) tied for fifth place with a height of 4.15 meters.

Cerritos sprinters did well in the 200 meters, as they took three of the top six places out of 36 entries. Sophomore Daniel Stokes (Diamond Ranch HS/Mt. San Antonio College) turned in a second place time of 21.34, with sophomore Kawika Jones (Green Valley, NV HS/Green River, WA College) not far behind in fifth place at 21.95 and sophomore Trevor Reid (Notre Dame HS/Mt. San Antonio College) taking sixth in a time of 22.13. Sophomore Kendall Turner (Hesperia HS/Mt. San Antonio College) placed fourth in the 100 meters in his time of 10.83, with two runners from Brazil finishing ahead of him. Jones was right behind him with a fifth place time of 10.98.

One of 35 runners in the 800 meters, freshman Alberto Serrano (St. John Bosco HS) came in 10th place with a time of 2:01.61, while freshman Jaime Quinones (Downey HS) came in 11th place in the 1500 meters with his time of 4:18.16.
