Competing at the USATF U20 Championships in Eugene (OR) in late June, Cerritos College freshman Bryce Pearson (Bellflower HS) finished in second place. Pearson, who finished sixth at the CCCAA State Championships, recorded a personal best 6280 points and was bested only by Landon Helms, a freshman at Texas A&M University. The meet was held at the newly renovated Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Pearson, who didn't register the top mark in any of the 10 events over the two days, had the second best mark in four of the events. He recorded his best point production in the 110-meter HH, as his time of 15.44 earned his 797 points. Pearson collected 789 points in the 100 meters with a clocking of 11.33, while he amassed 780 points when he turned in a 400 meters time of 50.76.

In other events, Pearson cleared 1.84 meters (661 points) in the high jump and recorded a long jump of 6.48 meters (693 points).
