On the strength of their commanding 23-7 non-conference win over visiting Merced College on Thursday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team has extended their winning streak to five games. The Falcons (10-6) will host a one-day mini tournament on Friday and will host both Southwestern College (8:30 a.m.) and San Diego Mesa College (3:30 p.m.). The team already holds wins over the Jaguars (16-10) and Olympians (11-10) this season.

In the victory over the Blue Devils (4-11-1), Cerritos opened a big 8-1 lead by the end of the first period, with sophomore Isaiah Wright scoring three times to lead the way. Although Merced was able to score three times in the second period, consecutive goals from Guillermo De La Mora (La Serna HS), Marco Uribe (St. John Bosco HS) and Christian Acosta (Schurr HS) to close out the half put the Falcons in front, 13-4.

The second half was much like the first, as Cerritos put four more goals on the board in the third period and closed out the game by shutting out Merced, 6-0 in the fourth period.

Wright and freshman Jaylen Wade (La Mirada HS) each scored four goals for the Falcons, while the trio of Acosta, Max Lucero (Whittier HS) and Julian Almanza (St. John Bosco HS) all scored three times in a balanced scoring attack. Almanza also assisted on five goals, while freshman Drew Gilbert (Garden Grove HS) picked up three helpers.

Sophomore goal Aiden Parra (California HS) played the first period and earned the win, as he allowed just one goal and made four saves. Freshman Tripp Johnson (Kennedy HS) turned away three shots in his two periods, with freshman Geo Fagiani (Schurr HS) making a pair of saves in the fourth period.
