Playing a pair of games at the College of the Sequoias Crossover, the Cerritos College women's basketball team picked up one win. The Falcons (2-4) opened with a 77-53 setback at the hands of the host Giants and followed that with a 67-53 victory over Reedley College. The team will now host Grossmont College at 5:00 p.m. in their first home game of the season.

Cerritos vs. College of the Sequoias: In their opening game of the crossover, the Falcons were defeated by the host Giants, 77-53. It was slow starts in both the first and third quarters that did in Cerritos, as they were outscored by a combined 29 points in those two periods. They fell behind early, 10-2, but received a three-pointer from sophomore Madison Lane (Mayfair HS) to draw to within 10-5 in the first quarter. Sequoias countered with a trio of three-pointers before the Falcons could score their next point. In the second quarter, a three-pointer from sophomore Sarah Hernandez (St. Paul HS) pulled Cerritos to within 24-19 with 6:15 left in the first half. It was another trey from Hernandez later in the quarter to make it a 28-23 game with 4:09 remaining in the half. Opening the second half down, 34-28, the Falcons saw Sequoias open up a 49-31 lead, as the team went 1-for-7 from the field and turned the ball over three times. Cerritos would never recover and suffered the loss. Hernandez led the team with 21 points, which included five three-pointers, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Freshman Precious Yerena (Downey HS) added nine points, while freshman Therese Zekajj (Legacy HS) added eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Cerritos vs. Reedley: Taking on the Tigers, Cerritos started to pull away with a strong fourth quarter. They took an 18-17 lead into the second quarter after Hernandez drained a three-pointer with :13 seconds left in the first quarter and after freshman Jordan Lewis (Downey HS) connected from long distance, it was a 21-17 advantage. Sophomore Mariah Lora (Warren HS) extended the lead to 23-17 after a pair of free throws with 7:24 left in the half and held a 34-28 advantage at intermission. Lora opened the second half with a three-pointer, and after her third of the game with 5:26 left in the third quarter, it was a 43-32 Cerritos lead. After Reedley closed it to 43-40, Hernandez and Yerena made consecutive baskets to make it a 47-40 lead with :40 seconds remaining. A three-point game (48-45) became a nine-point lead when Yerena, Lewis and Zekajj each converted baskets, with the Tigers going 0-for-4 from the field with two turnovers during that span. The Falcons maintained their lead the remainder of the game. Hernandez finished with a game-high 24 points, 15 rebounds and four steals, while Lora accounted for 17 points and six caroms. Lewis added 10 points and six rebounds in the win.
