On Saturday, the Cerritos College wrestling team compiled 128 team points to come in first place at the Santa Ana Tournament. It was the first time th Falcons won the tournament since 2014 and finished in second place the last two years. Cerritos won three weight classification championships and came in second place in two others. The team will open Southwest Conference action on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when they host Santa Ana College.

125 Pounds - For the second week in a row, freshman Jonathan Prata (Downey HS) won a tournament title, as he defeated three opponents to secure the title. Seeded #1, Prata opened with a pin in :52 seconds against Juan Diaz of Palomar College before he defeated Trevor Mattox of Sacramento City College, 15-1 in the semifinals. Prata capped his day off by pinning Connor Diamond of Mt. San Antonio College in 1:28. Freshman Jose Lozano (North Torrance HS) also competed and advanced to the semifinals before suffering a 5-3 defeat against Diamond. Lozano, who opened with a 16-1 win over Jesus Soto of East Long Angeles College and then pinned Donny Median of Moorpark College, lost in his next match. He was defeated, 13-11 by Salvador Alvarez of East LA.

133 Pounds - Sophomore Andres Gonzales (Capistrano Valley HS) pinned his first three opponents to advance to the championship match, where he was handed an 11-3 loss by Isaiah Calderon of Santa Ana. Gonzales, the top seed, pinned Isaac Hernandez of Mt. SAC, Aman Rana of Sacramento City and Jacob Hiller of Sacramento City. Freshman Mario Cazarin (Servite HS) dropped his first match, but picked up two wins in the consolation bracket before seeing his day end with another setback.

141 Pounds - Seeded #2 for the tournament, freshman Isaiah Mora (Esperanza HS) recorded a pair of technical fall wins before being forced to default out in the semifinals due to an injury. He also had to default in the consolation match against teammate Stefano McKinney (Torrance HS), who advanced to the third place match before being defeated, 12-8 by Rio Hondo's Christian Espinoza. McKinney split his first two matches and then won three in a row in the consolation bracket.

149 Pounds - With only nine entries in the weight, freshman V'ante Moore (Lawndale HS) received a pair of byes before posting a 16-1 technical fall win over Anthony Galvez of Moorpark, but was then defeated in the semifinals, 8-5 by Benji Naveratte of Santa Ana. He responded with wins over Lance McNatt of Palomar (5-4) and Ismael Cruz of Rio Hondo (6-2) to come in third place.

157 Pounds - Just like Prata, sophomore Larry Rodriguez (Downey Calvary Chapel HS) earned his second straight tournament championship in as many weeks. As the top seed, Rodriguez received a pair of byes and then a default win, which catapulted him into the semifinals. He defeated Doroteo Lopez of East Los Angeles, 15-3 and finished with a 14-6 win over Emmanuel Zepeda of East LA. Freshman Andrew Munoz (La Serna HS) earned two wins in the consolation round, but was eliminated early.

165 Pounds - Freshman Adrian Segovia (Downey HS) was pinned in his first match, but battled back in the consolation bracket win pick up wins over Vincent Febbo of Moorpark (pin in 1:42), the defeated teammates Drake De La Cruz (Long Beach Millikan HS), 10-6 and Walter Kowalewski (Los Alamitos HS), 9-7 before losing to Christian Hernandez of Santa Ana.

174 Pounds - After starting with a bye, freshman Cobe Hatcher (Mayfair HS) defeated Hugo Apastillar of Rio Hondo, 8-1 before being sent to the consolation bracket after getting pinned by Jacob Annis of Bakersfield. Hatcher then defeated Brandon Hill of Victor Valley College, 9-4 and then saw his day come to an end when he was pinned by Liam Leicke of Sacramento City.

184 Pounds - Sitting at the top of the bracket, freshman Armando Gonzales (Sonora HS) received a pair of byes before being forced to default out of the tournament due to an injury in his first match. Freshman Bryan Samayoa (Long Beach Millikan HS) opened with a pin before getting defeated by eventual champion Ayyoub Melab of Mt. SAC, 14-4. But in the consolation bracket, Samayoa won four straight matches to take third place. Along the way, he defeated sophomore Jarrod Nunez (Mayfair HS), 10-6 in the consolation round and finished the day getting pinned Joseph Flores of Mt. SAC in 4:42.

197 Pounds - As the team's third weight champion, freshman Hamzah Al-Saudi (Palisades HS) came in as the #2 seed and recorded a pin in his first match before defeating Andy Voong of Rio Hondo, 10-6 to reach the finals. Al-Saudi needed just :33 seconds to pin top-seed Jordan Annis of Bakersfield to win the title. Sophomore Angel Verduzco (El Dorado HS) pinned Aiden Elko of Sacramento City in 2:11 and then withstood Breck Jeffus of Cuesta College, 4-3 to reach the semifinals. With thoughts of facing Al-Saudi in the finals, Verduzco was defeated by Annis, 7-1 and had to face Jeffus in the third place match. This time, it was Jeffus who came out on top with a pin in 1:23.

285 Pounds - Freshman Randy Arriaga (Capistrano Valley HS) received a pair of byes before pinning Bryce Martinez of Bakersfield in 1:55 and then handed Enrique Galicia of Palomar a 5-1 decision to advance to the finals. In the championship match, the #2-seeded Arriaga was pinned by top-seeded Benham Jodhodiabkenar of Moorpark in 1:06.
