Extending their school-record for consecutive shutouts, the Cerritos College women's soccer team recorded a 6-0 South Coast Conference South Division win over Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday. In blanking the Seahawks (5-9-3, 1-4-0), the Falcons have now shut out their last 13 opponents and have only allowed one goal all season. They will look to continue the streak next Tuesday when they travel to Compton College for another divisional game. In their first meeting, Cerritos posted a 13-0 win.
From the outset of the game, the Falcons were putting pressure on the LA Harbor defense and goalkeeper Kiriana Teofilo, who was up to the task at times. But it was a quick 1-0 lead early in the second minute, as sophomore Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC Irvine) stepped up and converted a penalty kick, her second in as many games. A little over seven minutes later, it was a 2-0 advantage when Camacho found freshman Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS), who made a slick maneuver around Teofilo, which left her with an empty net and she picked up her 11th goal of the season.
Prior to the end of the first half, freshman Gabriela Jimenez (Long Beach Jordan HS) got off a solid shot that was turned away by Teofilo (seven saves), but Camacho was there to capture the long rebound and scored into the upper portion of the net.
The second half was all Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine), as she accounted for the three Falcon goals. Her first of the half came off a set piece when Corrilo gave her the ball at the flag and Carr did the rest. Moving the ball around the Seahawk defense, Carr finished the play by getting off a tight shot that found its way onto the corner of the net. Her last two goals came just 3:23 apart, with freshman Natalie Garcia (Santa Ana HS) getting her the ball on both plays. After receiving the ball inside the top of the box, Carr sent a shot with enough topspin on it to get through the hands of Teofilo. On the last goal, Carr used her speed to beat Teofilo to a loose ball and had an open net to record her state-leading 33rd goal of the season. She is now just the sixth player in school history to score more than 30 goals in a season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) wasn't tested the whole day and made one easy save in the first half. She continues to have a clean sheet for the entire season, as she hasn't allowed a single goal. The Falcons maintained possession of the ball for almost the entire game.
