Withstanding one attack after another by host Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday night, the Cerritos College women's soccer team came away with a 0-0 tie. The draw came against a Mountie team that's ranked #12 in the state and stopped their seven-match winning streak. The Falcons (5-7-2, 4-1-2) officially remain in first place in the South Coast Conference South Division with two regular season games remaining before the conference tournament. The team will travel to third place Long Beach City College (7-5-2, 4-3-0) for a 1:00 p.m. game on Friday.

"I thought we played great tonight," stated interim head coach Tessa Troglia. "It was a real tough game."

The first obstacle the Falcons had to overcome came in the seventh minute when starting goalkeeper Cassandra Contreras (Hacienda Heights Wilson HS) went down with an injury, forcing her out of the game. But Cerritos turned to sophomore Anahi De Leon (Lynwood HS/East Los Angeles College), who played the final 83 minutes and posted a career-high 16 saves, with 10 of them coming in the second half. They were able to keep a talented Mt. SAC team off the board, as they entered the game with 11 players who have scored at least two goals this season.

Cerritos didn't have much offense on the night, but saw freshman Jaque Adame (North HS) get a pair of shots on goal, while the defense was the key to the tie. In the last six games, the Falcon defense has allowed just seven goals, with five of them coming in one game. As they have been doing as the season progresses, Cerritos has turned to their defense to keep them in the game.
