After the conclusion of the Southern California Prelims, the Cerritos College women's track & field team is in second place with 34 team points. The Falcons, who have won five of the last seven Southern California Championships, trail only host Riverside City College, who have amassed 45 team points after five events have been completed. The SoCal Championships will take place at Riverside City College next Saturday.
In addition to the team's success in the completed events, the highlight of the day was the 4x100-meter relay team that broke their own school record with a time of 45.67, which is .03 faster than their previous record. The quartet of Kenyla Miles (Carson HS), Kierra King (Long Beach Wilson HS), Mahlaya Salter (Diamond Ranch HS) and Alona Davis (Bellflower HS) came in first place in the event and are the favorites to win the SoCal championship.
Of the five events that were completed, the Falcons collected 18 of those points in the heptathlon, which was held back on April 2-3. Darlena Robinson (Schurr HS) won the Southern California Championship with 3937 points, while teammates Daila Bell (Carson HS) and Keanna Daramola (Warren HS) finished in third and seventh places, respectively.
Additionally, sophomore Nanati Alailefaleula (Long Beach Millikan HS) recorded points in the shot put, hammer and javelin and combined to earn 12 points. The South Coast Conference champion in the shot put. Alailefaleula matcher her distance of 11.81 meters to earn third place, while freshman teammate Sarah Hernandez earned fifth place points with a distance of 11.42 meters. In the hammer, Alailefaleula finished in fifth place with a distance of 41.84 meters, while her javelin throw of 31.52 metes netted her a seventh place finish. The other event that was a final was the 10,000 meters, but Cerritos did not have an entry.
