W. Track & Field: Cerritos hosts lone meet of the season

In their only home meet of the season, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won seven events. The team will compete in the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational next Friday at Saturday.

Winning three events on the day was freshman thrower Angelina Escobar. In addition to turning in the best distance in the discus (38.95 meters), Escobar also defeated the field in the hammer (40.88 meters) and javelin (29.15 meters). Also competing in those events was Faitalia Ah-Fook, who turned in a third place distance of 39.07 meters in the hammer, while she was fourth in the discus at 33.72 meters. She was also entered in the shot put and turned in a fifth place distance of 10.06 meters.

Taking second in the javelin was freshman Riyanna Jackson with a throw that went 25.97 meters, with freshman Aryianna Faircloth performing well in several events. In addition to a sixth place result in the long jump (4.85 meters), Faircloth also won the 400 meters with a time of 59.04. She was followed in the event by Sophie Lopez at 1:01.94 for fourth place, while Charlotte Barrera was fifth in a time of 1:02.81. Faircloth also ran the second leg of the 1600 meter relay team that turned in a first place time of 4:12.23. She was joined by Barrera, Isis Johnson and Lopez.

Freshman Lauren Berg easily won the 1500 meters and turned in a time of 5:09.32, with Isabel Orosco taking third place with a clocking of 5:35.88. Orosco also finished in fifth place in the 800 meters in a time of 2:49.41.

On Thursday, the college hosted a heptathlon event, with freshman Jazzmine Davis amassing 3693 points, good for first place, with Michelle Campos in third place at 3123 points.
