Volleyball: Falcons get swept by Mt. San Antonio

Still looking for their first South Coast Conference win, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept by host Mt. San Antonio College on Friday, 18-25, 13-25, 18-25. The loss drops the Falcons to 0-2 in SCC play, while they are now 1-7 overall. The will play their first home match of the season on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host rival Long Beach City College.

In the loss to the Mounties, Cerritos encountered some struggles at the net, as they committed 12 kill errors, while they also added six service errors, which contributed to their setback. Looking to counter those mistakes was sophomore Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS), who posted four kills in 11 attempts and added two blocks at the net. Leading the team in kills was freshman Susan Suski (Cerritos HS), who recorded seven kills and added five digs and one block.

Defensively, the Falcons were taxed at the back line, but did receive a team-high 10 digs from freshman Yazmin Rios (Paramount HS), with freshman Ashley Castro (Santa Fe HS) chipping in with nine digs on the night. Sophomore Gloria Chang (Bellflower HS) added seven digs, while freshman Marissa Sunio (Cerritos HS) accounted for six assists and three digs. Sophomore Latia Peters (Hesperia HS) finished the match with five kills, while freshmen Chelsea James (La Mirada HS) and Aniga Aiono (Lakewood HS) both added three kills.
