The Cerritos College volleyball team opened their 2014 season with a convincing 25-16, 25-16, 25-19 sweep over host Santa Ana College on Friday. The Falcons will now travel to Fullerton College for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match on Wednesday.

It was close early on in the match, but Cerritos slowly started pulling away for a win in the first set. They broke a 6-6 tie and never looked back, as six different players posted at least one kill along the way. Sophomore Jasmynne Roberts (Long Beach Poly HS) accounted for three of her team-high 10 kills in that first set, while to duo of sophomore Lisa Villarroel (Long Beach Millikan HS/Long Beach City College) and freshman Tisha Lenon (Gahr HS) each added a pair of kills.

The second set opened with Cerritos scoring three-straight points before Santa Ana's Chloe Anderson made it 5-2 early on. Later in the match, the Dons went on top for the first time with a kill at 11-10 and also held a 13-11 lead. The Falcons came back to force a tie at 14-14, part of an 11-2 run to close out the set. It was Roberts again who led the way with seven kills, while sophomore Sara Hickman (La Mirada HS) made good on all three of her kill attempts.

Cerritos closed out the sweep by taking an early 4-2 lead and maintaining that advantage the remainder of the set. Lenon had six kills in that clinching set, with the tandem of sophomore Michelle Barba (Downey HS) and freshman Natalie Caravantes (Montebello HS) dished out 12 and eight assists, respectively from their setter position. Villarroel led the team with three blocks, while the duo of Barba and Roberts each came up with five digs from the back row.
